Chelsea Hackett

MMA Fighter

Chels “Hammer” Hackett is a professional Muay Thai fighter from Australia’s Gold Coast.

She is a three-time Australian Lightweight Champion, and recently became the new WBC International Lightweight Champion after winning over Italian Muay Thai competitor Emily Wahby in Brisbane. In doing so, the 20-year-old became the first ever Australian female to claim this title.

In 2014 & 2015 she won gold in the IFMA Muay Thai World Championships, and was named female teenage fighter of the year at the Australian Muay Thai Awards both years.

Introduced to martial arts by her parents at a young age, Chels initially began with Taekwondo before transitioning to Muay Thai at the age of 12. Within 6 months of making this transition she was competing in the ring.

Taking to the physical nature of Muay Thai immediately, Hackett began to etch out her fighting style – aggressive and forward moving. She is happy to trade blows with her opponents, and is also a master of the technical aspects of her sport, utilising catch kicks, sweeps and teeps regularly and to great effect.

She is trained by her father Geoff Hackett at the Wise Force Fight Centre, Wade Leys at the Momentum Sports Performance Centre and Jesse Yada, Miles Muecke and Aaron Van Der Meulenat the Apex Training Academy.

Recently, Chels has commenced training for a Mixed Martial Arts debut, practicing Jiu Jitsu up to four times per week in order to fine tune the skills needed to undertake an exciting new chapter in her fighting career.

In light of this, her key goal along with defending her current Muay Thai title is an anticipated debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Outside of her professional fighting career, Chels has been running a successful Personal Training business HammerFit since the age of 17 & is passionate about being a strong role model for young women. She believes in the importance of everyone carving out their own personal journey, and encourages women to follow their hearts in all that they do. She credits her strong sense of self to commencing martial arts at such a young age.

From a tight knit and supportive family unit, both she, her brother and both parents are all black belts in Taekwondo.

Chels Hackett’s current sponsors are For the Fighter, PranaOn and Lion Heart Mongkons.
